Dear Birth Parents,
I want to start by thanking you for taking the time to learn about me but, even more, for the courage and strength that has led you to explore adoption. I look forward to getting to know you and hearing about your hopes for your child’s future. I am excited to begin this process together. Please know that you will always have a special place in our hearts and lives. Adoption has always been my plan, ever since I was a child myself. It has always felt right to me and I am wholeheartedly ready to begin this journey.
One of the most important things to know about me is that I come from a close family that values togetherness and humor. My sister and I have grown to have an even stronger bond as adults. I have two young nieces and a baby nephew, who are my fa-vorite people in the entire world. I love taking Emmie and Harper on new adventures or spending time bonding with Lincoln. They cannot wait to have a new cousin!
In addition, I was extremely close to my mother. She taught me what it means to be a great mom: she was always there for us and we could tell her anything. Quite simply, Mom was home. She passed away four years ago, but I know how lucky I was—and still am—to have had her for a mother. I am also fortunate to have my dad and a supportive extended family. Dad lives nearby and is already a wonderful grandfather to my nieces and nephew. My friends are also a big part of my life, and many of them are already parents.
As for how I spend my days, I have the best job in the world: I’m a teacher. I teach sev-enth grade English and spend all day reading, writing, and working with kids! What could be better? They truly make me laugh on a daily basis and, more often than not, I make them laugh, too.
A huge benefit to teaching is that also provides the perfect schedule for a parent: I will be at work while my child is in school. In the beginning, I plan to take time off to bond with the baby. I am grateful to be able to take that time and to have a job that will me to spend a great deal of time with a child. I have a short 10 minute commute and own a home in an excellent school district, just 30 minutes outside of New York City. Here, I have the best of both worlds: a friendly, quiet town with great schools and a short drive away from the best city in the world.
In my free time, I love going into the city to see what new events, festivals, or exhibits have popped up. Most of all, I love going to see Broadway shows! Theater has always been a passion of mine, ever since my grandmother took me to see my first show when I was six. When staying close to home, I enjoy reading, seeing a good movie or discov-ering a new show on Netflix, and spending time with my friends. You know that friend who is always recommending a new show or movie? Well, that is definitely me. I also have a knack for trivia and have game nights with friends (I confess that can get a bit competitive with the trivia).
Recently, I’ve discovered a love for travel. Over the past two years, I have visited Eng-land, Scotland, and France. I look forward to adding stamps to my passport and seeing more of my own country. I’d love to share these kinds of adventures with a child some-day. First stop: Disney World! Later on, the sky is the limit.
Being a mother is a choice I made long ago and I have never wanted anything more. I promise that I will always put your child first and raise him or her to be caring, strong, and confident. He or she will always feel secure and loved. This child will learn to chase dreams and know that it is okay to take risks because I will be there to cheer him or her on and there when he or she falls. To me, that’s what a parent is all about: being there and helping your child discover who he or she will become.
