Kim & James

Dear Birth Mom,

Hello and thank you for taking the time to get to know us. We have great admiration for the loving choice that you are making for your baby, and we wish you the best with your decision. We have been a couple for about 12 years. We always knew we wanted to have children, but we experienced infertility challenges before finally having our daughter, Cecelia. We’d very much like to have another child, and we feel confident that adoption is the right path for us. We have many family members and friends who were adopted, and their beautiful experiences and stories have inspired us greatly. Thank you for considering us to love and care for your baby.

Our Background as a Family
We met 12 years ago while attending graduate school in James’ home state of Oregon. We each fell in love with the other’s kindness and sense of humor. We had lots of common interests too, like: traveling, reading, music, hiking and sports. Over the years, we spent time teaching in the US and then several years at an international school in the Dominican Republic. We loved the adventure and challenge of experiencing a new culture and learning Spanish. We recently moved back to Oregon to be closer to family, and we’re so excited about this new chapter of our lives. We can’t wait to meet the baby that will complete our family.

Our Personalities and Interests:
James is tall- really tall! He loves sports, especially basketball. He played in college and later became a PE teacher and coach. He is now the athletic director at a nearby school, and remains passionate about sports. His 6’7” height is a delight for kids like our daughter and nieces/nephews, who seem to think he’s a human climbing wall. His patience and gentle, goofy personality make him an amazing dad and uncle. He plays guitar and mandolin and loves music. He’s also really smart and curious- he likes to read, loves history, and is always staying up to date on the news. On top of all that, he is an amazing cook, with a specialty for making outrageously good pies!

Kim is a super thoughtful, caring person. She is a great listener, she goes out of her way to help others, and she is an extremely loyal friend. As a teacher she always related well to all of the kids in the class, from the outgoing comedians to the quiet, sensitive types, and she was well loved for her kindness and endless patience. Now, as an acupuncturist, she puts her caring nature to work to help people stay in good health. She is a mellow person in the sense that she loves reading, hiking, camping, gardening, and otherwise relaxing. But she is also lively, silly, and social, and she loves to laugh. As a mom, Kim is loving, affectionate, energetic, and adventurous, and she makes life fun for our daughter.

Cecelia is a ray of sunshine in our lives, just as our next child will be. She is an active, curious, happy kid. She loves to sing and dance, to swim, and to explore everything. Lately she’s really into babies- she’s dresses them, sings and reads to them, and calls them her ‘brothers and sisters.’ With her affectionate personality, we know she will make a great big sister. We are both really close to our siblings, and we look forward to nurturing the relationship between Cecelia and your baby.

Our Home:
We have a 4 bedroom house with a big family/play room, a lovely kitchen, and a cozy living room. Your baby will have his/her own room right next to ours. One of the best features of our home is the big backyard with a swing set, grassy lawn, garden, and fruit trees. Our house is at the end of a quiet street, in a safe neighborhood that’s full of young families. We’re right next to a school, so we have access to their fields and playgrounds, as well as lots of other great parks close by. We can walk to James’ mom’s house and to an amazing bike path that runs along a beautiful river. We make the most of the beautiful region we live in by going for frequent hikes, riding bikes, lounging at the lake, and going camping.

Our Daily Life Together:
We absolutely love being parents! Our home life is relaxed and playful. We spend our time at home playing games, reading books, cooking together, doing art projects, gardening, playing in the yard, and watching the occasional movie. In our free time, we walk to playgrounds, ride bikes, visit the library or other kid friendly events, spend time with family and friends, and explore the nearby lakes, rivers and trails. Whatever we’re up to, our two dogs, Oliver and Annie, are usually right by our sides. Oliver is a gentle, goofy, giant (hound dog), and Annie is an incredibly sweet little mixed breed who has ruled our house (in the best way) since we found her 4 years ago.

Thank You:
We can’t possibly know what this experience has been like for you, but can only imagine it must be a very complex emotional journey. We have deep compassion for you and admiration for the courageous choice you are making. Please know that in our family, your baby will be surrounded by love and opportunity. He/she will have unconditional support and encouragement, not only from us, but from our extended family of relatives and friends. And so will you. We look forward to an adoption that is as open as you wish, and we promise to honor you in every way that we can. We wish you well and look forward to learning more about you.

Very sincerely,
Kim, James, and Cecelia
