Dear Birth Parent,
Hello there! We are honored to be included in this emotional and personal time in your life. We know that you are making a courageous decision, but also a selfless one. You deserve to be assured that your child will be raised by parents who will cherish them as much as you do in a home full of love and joy. So, thank you for taking an interest in us as adoptive parents! We’d love to share a little about ourselves: who we are, how we met, our home, our extended families, and of course, the role you’ll continue to play in this child’s life, if you so choose.
Let us introduce you to Jim! Jim is a fun-loving, smart, adventurous guy! He has a PhD in economics and works at a not-for-profit research organization trying to make the world a better place. In his spare time, he loves to play piano, read, cook, ride bikes, and travel. Jim has a big family: two younger brothers, six aunts and uncles, nine cousins, and tons of friends scattered all over the world! His family shares a love of sports (especially hockey!) and Grateful Dead music. His parents visit several times a year, and his extended family gets together every Christmas for a huge celebration. Jim can’t wait to be a dad and include a child in the festivities!
David is a professional actor and singer and loves to bring people joy through storytelling! After earning his Master’s degree, he performed in New York, Chicago, and now DC. When he’s not on stage, David enjoys hiking, yoga, travel, and learning new languages. He is excited to introduce a child to the art of PLAY and help them explore their imagination! David also has two younger brothers plus three nieces and nephews. David’s family loves sports (Go Gators!) and gathers for an annual family reunion at the lake house in Florida where his grandmother grew up. Grammy and Grampy can’t wait to teach the new member of the family how to swim and David’s friends can’t wait shower them with love and joy!
When we first met we knew we’d found someone special. We had our first date in 2016 at a burger joint in Chicago and immediately realized we shared a love of the outdoors, the performing arts, and best of all, travel! Our first big trip was to Hong Kong and after that we knew we were totally compatible. We are each other’s biggest fans and we make each other laugh every day. We made our love official in 2019 and the whole day was truly a dream come true. We were surrounded (literally!) by family and friends and had the best night of dancing, food, and love. David surprised Jim during the ceremony with a song! We had always felt lucky to find each other, but after the utter perfection of this day, it truly felt like our partnership was blessed by something larger than ourselves. As our officiant put it: “As a pianist, Jims instrument is often mathematical in style. Then we have David’s vocal line. Both of these individual melodies could continue making music in this world solo and do great things…but how much more rich will this music be when joined together!?!”
We moved outside Washington, DC in 2020. We love that our community is filled with diverse families and lots of kids. Our house is next to the playground, the neighborhood pool, and the soccer and baseball fields. But, the best part of all is the nature trail around the lake just out our front door! We are lucky to have such a warm and inviting home and love hosting family and friends for the holidays. Our home is blessed with laughter and music and we can’t wait to teach the kids the secret family recipes to pecan pie and baklava!
As we mentioned, we both come from big families and being uncles, both in our given and chosen families, has been the most rewarding part of our lives. We have been blessed to be surrounded by so many little kids and we’re definitely ready for our own! They’re fun, silly, inspiring, and, simply put, utterly perfect just the way they are. But, what we’ve also learned being around so many kids is how important it is to be able to answer their tough questions when the time comes. It is very important to us that your child knows their truth: that they were brought into this world by people who love them very much. But more than that, we’d also love for them to get to know you in the way that feels best to you. We’d be honored to share with you important life moments like birthdays, Mother’s Days, music recitals, cute Halloween costumes, and school graduations if you wish. We will never take for granted that, without you, our family and our child’s life would never have been possible. You will always be this child’s only mother and their story is yours to share in as well.
We cannot thank you enough for reading this and considering us to be your child’s adoptive parents. You would be giving us the greatest gift of our lives and we promise to repay you by providing your child with an endless supply of unconditional love and joy. Every person’s story is as different and unique as they are and we cannot wait to nurture a life full of love, joy, adventure, exploration, creativity, and discovery. We have been blessed with the gifts we have been bestowed in this life and we cannot wait to share those gifts with the person who will make our family truly whole.
With sincere thanks and much love,
