Dan and Kayli

Hi there, friend!

We’re Kayli and Dan and we first want to thank you for taking the time to read this. It’s not every day you get to write a letter like this, and we’re honestly feeling a mix of excitement, nerves, and a desire to make you laugh at least once!

We won’t presume to know what this journey has been like for you. We don’t want to create pressure, or overlook the depth of your complex reasons and emotions. What we do want you to know is that we deeply respect the gravity of this very personal decision and are humbled by the opportunity to introduce ourselves as potential adoptive parents for your little one.

Who is Kayli? (according to Dan)

Kayli’s the quiet and crafty one who loves curling up with a good book or breaking out the stand mixer to whip up a batch of cookies or cupcakes. Although she does not project it outwardly, Kayli is secretly analytically minded and detail oriented, which was what initially attracted me to her all of those years ago. She loves romance, both fictional and in her daily life. One of her chief defining characteristics is that she strives to do things for others. Whether that is preparing food, giving presents, or just being there to support her friends. People always say things like, “if you need anything, just let me know”, but Kayli really means it. She flew across the continent to Alaska for two weeks to support her friend from high school when she was diagnosed with cancer. Even her chosen career is centered around helping others with decision-making and professional growth. She has been incredibly supportive of me, and most importantly supportive of herself and her own mental health.

Who is Dan? (according to Kayli)

Dan keeps things lively – the extrovert who balances being serious with cracking silly jokes. Dan is one of the smartest people I know, which was one of the things that attracted me to him in the first place. But beyond his intelligence, he’s got a great sense of humor and is also incredibly talented in many other ways. He’s musically gifted and pretty handy around the house. I tease him for watching his educational “nerd shows” on YouTube, but it’s really just a reflection of his love for learning. He’s turned that passion into a fulfilling career that he truly loves as a chemistry professor. He could make a lot more money going into industry, but he enjoys teaching and helping students.  That happiness is more important to both of us than money. His humor and outgoing nature balance my more reserved personality. He has a big heart, genuinely cares about people, and is incredibly supportive which makes him not just a wonderful partner but also a great friend.

Who are we together?

We are high school sweethearts who have grown into best friends who laugh together, support each other, and truly enjoy each other’s company. From awkward teenage dances to building a home together, we’ve shared so many incredible adventures and memories. Parenthood has always been a dream we’ve shared. We tried to conceive for eight years, but infertility gave us a different path. Adoption is our way of sharing the love we have in our hearts and the life we’ve built together.

We consider ourselves avid indoorsmen! Most nights, you can find us playing one of our 50+ board games or watching our favorite shows on Netflix or YouTube. When we do head out, we love going to the movies, trying new restaurants, exploring farmer’s markets, or catching a live theater performance. We love travelling, and try to go on at least one vacation each year.

Family is very important to us. Family means love, support, and being present for one another. We make it a priority to stay connected, even though we live a few hours apart. We always spend Christmas together, and take whole family vacations every few years. Getting together to eat corned beef and cabbage for St. Patrick’s Day is also a big tradition for Dan’s side of the family.

Our cozy three-bedroom house is also home to our four furry family members (three cats and one dog) who add so much fun and personality to our lives! We know they will be wonderful companions for a little one. Our home is filled with warmth and plenty of room to play, grow, and make memories. One of our favorite spots is our deck and big backyard, perfect for summer cookouts and playing fetch with Rosie.

We live in a friendly and diverse neighborhood where kids play outside, and people stop to chat while walking their dogs. It’s a quiet suburb with several parks, just a short drive from the city, so we get the best of both worlds: plenty of fun things to do nearby, but all the comfort of a small-town vibe. There are hardly any cars driving by, so it’s safe and peaceful – a wonderful place for a child to grow up.

Our Commitment to You and Your Child

We are committed to an open adoption and believe in the importance of a child knowing their story. Whether it’s sharing photos, writing letters, video calls, or occasional visits, we’re happy to create a relationship that feels comfortable for everyone involved. Kayli grew up with divorced parents and knows what it’s like to feel loved by family in two places. We hope to create that same sense of belonging and connection for your child.

We promise to love your child unconditionally and support them every step of the way. Through education and open conversation, we will encourage them to explore who they are and who they want to be. We hope to nurture their curiosity and creativity, helping them discover their passions and dreams. We will teach them the importance of kindness, honesty, and determination, guiding them to navigate life with courage and empathy. Above all, we want them to feel safe, supported, and cherished as they grow into who they are meant to be.

Thank you again for considering us! We hope this little peek into our lives helps you picture the kind of extremely loving, slightly goofy, and deeply committed parents we will be.

No matter what you decide, we wish you nothing but peace, strength, and happiness in the journey ahead. If you feel we could be a good fit, we would be honored to discuss welcoming your child into our lives and share our love and support with you both.
