The Gift of Adoption
I didn’t give you the gift of life,
But in my heart I know.
The love I feel is deep and real,
As if it had been so.
For us to have each other
Is like a dream come true!
No, I didn’t give you
The gift of life,
Life gave me the gift of you.

This beautiful poem was submitted to share on the Act of Love Adoptions blog. These heartfelt words show the true love between birthparents, adoptive parents and their children. As the birthparents so lovingly choose to give their children life, the deep and real love that adoptive families have for their children and birthparents is overwhelming. Birthparents make the brave and courageous choice to bring their children into this world and the most unselfish decision to give the gift of life to their child and an adoptive family.
Watching the beautiful birth and placement of a precious baby girl this last week was such a wonderful reminder of the sacrifices that are made by birthparents and adoptive families as they come together to give this child the very best life has to offer. The tender moment that the birthparents lovingly placed their baby girl into the waiting arms of the adoptive mom who knows what this gift of life means is truly amazing and a blessing to witness. Watching as this adoptive mom realizes her dreams of a family are coming true and then the tender moments to follow, as the adoptive dad tells the birthparents that they have made the greatest sacrifice and there are not words of thank you that can describe the gift they have just received is deep and real. The promises to love, protect and cherish this baby girl forever and to forever love her birthparents will forever be in their hearts and minds.
