Trina and John were very young- just 14 and 15 years old when they found out that Trina was pregnant. They were extremely scared and had no idea what they should do. They were afraid that their parents would be very angry, so they decided to talk to their school counselor.
The counselor encouraged them to talk to their parents. However, several months went by and Trina and John still had not talked to their parents. Trina was starting to look pregnant, so once again the counselor encouraged them to talk to their parents.
It was the hardest thing that Trina and John had ever done, but they did talk to their parents, who were shocked. They could not believe that their young children were going to be parents. They also knew that Trina and John needed to finish school and find a way to support themselves before they were ready to be parents.
Trina’s mom started doing some research online. She came across some information about adoption, and shared it with Trina and John. At first, Trina and John felt there was no way that they could ‘give their baby away to strangers.’ However, they decided to call A Act of Love Adoption Agency with Trina’s mom. After they spoke to a kind lady for a very long time, the idea of adoption seemed much better.
Trina and John got the agency paperwork in the mail and started filling it out. They started working with an agency counselor who helped them look at all their options. Trina and John had their eyes open to what it would take to raise a child, and they knew that having an open adoption was the best choice.
Trina and John chose an amazing adoptive family that they felt completely comfortable with. They did phone calls and emailed each other prior to the birth of the baby.
Soon, Trina went into labor and John and Trina were able to meet the adoptive family at the hospital. The family spent time with them and the baby in the hospital, and Trina and John were able to watch the family start to bond with their baby and become a family. Even though it was difficult emotionally, it helped Trina and John recognize that they made the right choice.
Trina and John have both gone on to graduate from high school. They both have plans for college, and recognize that they would still be struggling if they had chosen to raise their baby. They maintain close contact with the adoptive family, and receive regular updates. Adoption made a positive future possible for Trina, John and their baby.
