I had the privilege of witnessing my oldest son’s baptism a few weeks ago. It was an extraordinary event to witness, and I am so happy for him. It really makes my soul sing knowing that he has decided to take this step in his life.
It is also a reminder of why I am so happy to have placed my youngest son for adoption. He truly has the most amazing parents in the world. (Not biased at all…)
There were several main reasons I chose to place my son for adoption. The number one main reason is so that he would be safe. The second main reason is so that he would have a mom and dad in the same home, raising him, caring for him, and loving him. I did not want him to be without the family he deserves, and I wanted him to have the kind of family that he would not have had if I decided to raise him myself.
Seeing Edward’s baptism, it was a reminder that I made the right decision to place Matthew for adoption. When I see the accomplishments of my two boys I raise myself, I see the potential for Matthew to accomplish those same goals. I know that he has a family that is able to spend time with him and teach him the most important things in life. I cannot say with absolute certainty that I would have been able to do the same for him.
I know that his parents have the desire and means to teach him and raise him in the way that I believe he deserves to be taught and raised.
I love all my kids dearly, but raising kids is hard work. It requires a lot of time and effort. I am thankful for the opportunity to raise Edward and Matthias, and it is a joy to be with them. Knowing how challenging, yet rewarding, it is to raise children, I am eternally grateful for Matt’s family giving him everything I wanted for him. They are a wonderful example of love and the true meaning of family.
