Just last week birthmother “Marnie,” picked up the telephone and called A Act of Love Adoptions in Utah. This was not her first contact with the adoption agency; she had called several months ago but had not made up her mind about adoption. After careful thought, consideration and consulting with her mom and sister, she decided adoption would be the very best option for the baby. Being a single mom was difficult and she was trying to get on her feet financially, so that she could raise her other children who were being cared for by a friend.
Marnie called A Act of Love and said she was ready to move forward. Act of Love promptly met with her and the birthfather. They openly discussed all their options with a counselor — placing, parenting, having friends care for the baby and ultimately, both decided that placing would be the best plan for all of them. The birthparents agreed that an open adoption is what they wanted. They wanted to exchange pictures and letters and have periodic conference calls with the adoptive couple. If possible, they decided they would like the adoptive couple to be at the hospital at the time the baby was born.
As Marnie was leaving her appointment with A Act of Love, she expressed her relief and said she felt like a burden had been lifted from her shoulders. She and the birthfather excitedly left A Act of Love’s office with profiles of adoptive parents that met their criteria. They were anxious to review the profiles to see which one they would select! Marnie’s baby is due shortly and a lucky adoptive family will be receiving a life changing call in the next few days!
