Tiffany & Dana

Dear birth parent,

We are honored that you would consider us to be family for your child and you. Thank you for taking time to learn a little about us!

We can only imagine how difficult this process is for you, and our prayer is that you will find peace as you navigate this time in your life with strength and courage. If you choose us we look forward to getting to know you and promise that you will always be deeply respected in our home just as Andee’s birth mom is.

Having already started our family through adoption, we understand the importance having information to share with your child about you and your family. In our family, your child would have a sibling with a common bond of adoption and support as they navigate through life.

Our Story

Even though we met when Tiffany was in college and Dana was an Admissions Counselor at the college, the timing was not right for us to be anything but friends. Dana moved 2 hours away, but Tiffany remained in Dana’s hometown, and through the years we kept in contact. It was not until God’s perfect timing that we were finally in a place that our eyes could see what our mutual friends had always known.

In the fall of 2011 we started dating and knew very early in our relationship that we wanted to get married. Same-sex marriage was not legal across the country, so at that time many couples did not take this path, but we knew we wanted this level of commitment, security, and stability. On December 14, 2012, we eloped to New York City and were married in Central Park!

Adoption in our life

We adopted our daughter Andee in December 2014.When she was born, it was such a special experience to be able to stay in the room with Andee and her birth mom for 2 days learning about her birth mom’s background, family, and her life’s journey. We have been very open in our discussions with Andee about her birth mom and will continue to share more information as she gets older.

Our hope is to add to our family not only a child that will look like their big sister, but also you and your family. If you wish, we would also love to keep an open line of communication with you as we do with Andee’s birth mom to allow you to always be a part of your childs life.

Cultural diversity

Being a transracial family has given us the opportunity to open the hearts and minds of everyone we meet and show that a nontraditional family is not any different. We are not naïve to think there will not be challenges, but by reading books with Andee that address differences and by making sure she has positive African American role models in her life, we hope we can teach her how to handle those challenges.

We know by reading about us means you are open to a non-traditional family raising your child. We believe family can look a variety of ways, but most important family is LOVE. We will teach your child that you gave us a gift that is priceless, and we would forever be grateful to you for your selfless act of love.

With love,

Tiffany & Dana
