Alison Rose

Dear Birth Parent,

I would like to thank you for looking at my profile and I am so excited that you’d like to learn more about me. I truly admire your strength for considering placing your child for adoption. What you are doing is brave, selfless, and I know that you are putting the child’s interests and well-being first. If you choose me I will care for and raise your child using every resource, talent, and ounce of love I have.

I’m 5’7”, Caucasian, with brown hair and brown eyes. I am built like an athlete, but these days, I mostly do yoga. I’ve worked with children for most of my life – as a teacher, a mentor or counsellor, and as an auntie. I work in international development, which is a fancy way of saying I sit at a desk inside an office but I do it in different countries all over the world.

I live in Nairobi, Kenya where I am surrounded by a large, but very close network of friends and colleagues. It’s a family-friendly, beautiful, and welcoming place. People here will come and play with a child, the restaurants all have jungle gyms or bouncy castles, and children are welcome at pretty much any and every venue. Also, there is a serious and ubiquitous culture of ‘child care’ here, with large cadres of experienced nannies, who work for both the expat and Kenyan families. “My village” here is diverse not only in nationality and ethnicity, but also in personality.

A few of my favorite things are: Stranger than Fiction (Movie), South Africa (Place in the world), macaroni and cheese (Food), Bruce Springsteen (Singer/Band), autumn (Season), Balderdash (board game), reading (Activity), Christmas (Holiday), and elephant (Animal).

I spend my free time reading novels, watching movies, taking care of my friends’ children or going on adventures across Kenya. I’ve travelled and lived all over the world, but stay connected and remain close with my family in New Jersey, visiting them at least once a year. I have two brothers, a sister and sister-in-law, two nephews, and parents who have been married for 44 years! We take family vacations together, crowd into our family beach house every summer, and can be found constantly doing round-robin visits to one another’s homes. We’re all movie lovers and (whether you want us to or not!) we can quote you lines from almost any film you name. They’re smart, loving, supportive, and could not be more excited to welcome a new addition to the family!

I promise your child will be surrounded by laughter and joy. I promise to make sure your child learns, explores, and tries new things. I promise to celebrate all their successes and to hug them when they fail. And I would very much like to be able to share all of this with you, whether through letters or Skype. I am so very grateful that you are considering me. I hope that this provides you with some insight into my life – and the world, community, family, and life I would like to share with your child.

Always,
Alison Rose
